A file that is not an MP3 (I suppose it is) is assigned a Track No of 0. An MP3 that does not have a V1 ID3, but only a V2 ID3, is assigned some (seemingly) random (perhaps 9-digit minimum) number. It keeps putting a hyphen or a dash in between the track number and the title. An (ID3 V1) MP3 that does not have a Track No is assigned, 32. I've never had MP3Tag have any problem like this in the past with any other program.and I've used LOTS of MP3 authoring/transcoding apps over the years, so it has been fed a great many different MP3 files in that time. So, when the MP3 files first enter MP3Tag, the app doesn't recognize their year tags (they show up as blank fields).then, when it saves the file with the new track number data, the unrecognized year data is cleared out entirely so that it no longer shows up anywhere (i.e., it's TRULY a blank field). You can also edit filenames, update them from FreeDB, and add sequence-track numbers for players that require tagged songs. I think I've figured out what's going on:ġ) The year tags that SIA writes show up in Windows File Explorer and in Winamp, but NOT in MP3Tag and NOT in iTunes.Ģ) The funky year tags that SIA writes into the MP3 files are being cleared out by MP3Tag when I use it to correct their track number formats (see other thread) and rewrite their filenames to fit my collection's format. So, there's something weird going on with how SIA is writing tag info, at least for the year datum. UPDATE #2: A second tape was just ripped in the same SIA session and those tracks' year tags show up in Windows File Explorer and Winamp, but NOT in MP3Tag or in iTunes. Or, it may be something else (e.g., I had restarted SIA right before ripping that tape).will keep experimenting and post results here. UPDATE: OK, I just ripped a tape and the resulting MP3 files included the year info, but the year only shows up in Winamp and Windows File Explorer, not in MP3Tag, so I am wondering if SIA is writing ID3 tags that don't adhere to the latest ID3 spec.

I could see possibly forgetting the year on a tape or two, but certainly not on all 30 (especially since I've now been correcting it manually after the SIA transcoding process completes), so unless there's a setting in SIA that I've overlooked, my install is just not writing year info.
